Ilona Mahel

Writer and web editor

Ilona is a writer/web editor working for the Christian InterNet Association (CINA) in Germany.

Going into missions was not my top priority when I became a Christian 13 years ago. For one thing I was sure that to be a missionary, you’d have to be a perfect Christian – and I felt far from being that! Secondly, mission work seemed to require gifts and talents that I didn’t have – preaching boldly and all the rest of it...

However, I ended up spending three years at a mission-oriented Bible school in the Netherlands. God taught me to get rid of the misconceptions I had concerning mission work. I learned that I don’t have to pretend to be like someone else, but that He can use me and the gifts that He has given me – e.g. writing, communicating, researching and organising.

For the last four years I have been working with the Christian InterNet Association CINA [www.cina.de] – an interdenominational organisation founded in 1996. Our two main pillars are Mission and Service, i.e. we try to reach others via the Internet using our own sites (e.g. jesus-online.de or nikodemus.net) and also provide web space, training and web design for Christian individuals and organisations.

I am involved in providing content for the evangelistic magazine www.jesus-online.de [www.jesus-online.de] – a web magazine mainly for young adults. The aim is to reach them by taking up news items and presenting the Christian viewpoint. Also, there’s the possibility of receiving counselling on the site and in the chat room.

Also, I run www.cybermission.de [www.cybermission.de] a portal for Internet missionaries in Germany, and in 2004 I co-authored a book on web evangelism Fischen mit Netz. I really enjoy doing research and trying to find ways to promote Internet ministry.
